Second Draft Of Music Video

WWW:

We included more shots of the wave projector to make sure they werent random and made sense in the music video.
We have included new editing techniques such as the overlays when the couple are lip syncing and he dissolve when the male artist faed away so Robin is the only one left.
We have thought about the mise en scene such as when we use the wave projector to link in with the kyrics of the song which are about water. Mise en scene has also been used when Robin is lip syncing in the mirror and there are pictures of her and the male artist around the side of it.

EBI:

Some of the shots in the middle of the video need to be in time with the music such as when the couple are walking togther and the shot of the feet walking.
We need to re do some shots to mak sure that it isnt shakey and in foucs or we could add the warp stabiliasation on them in post production. . Such as the shots when Robin is sitting on the grass on her own which need to be stable, the one when the couple are looking out over London.
We need to make sure tha the shots make sense and have been included earlier on in the music video aswell such as the silhouette shots.

Mood Board

We have created a mood board to help us decided what to pur on our front cover so that it represents our genre of indie pop and also the artists personalitily of being simple but also uniqu.

Ancillary Products- Digipack Plan

Digipack Plan
For our digipack we have chosen to use two colours which are blue and black for our main colour scheme however, we will also use othr colours like pink and white but only on the polariof pictures. We have chosen these two colours because they associate with the indie genre also they link into our music video which is called 'Shark' which consists of a variety of different blue based shots.

For the front cover we will have a picture of Robin looking to the side of the cmaera instead of into it. Robin will be in white and grey which contrasts with the black background. The title will be light blue writing with Exposure and Robin in different fonts.

For the back cover we will use the same font for the songs as we did for Robn which will also be in blue. We will include multiple polariod pictures which will be in colour, the background will also e in black.

For the CD it will be a polariod photo so where the hole is in the middle will be where the camera lens is. We have chosen to use a polariod camera because they are usually stereotypicaly associated with the indie genre and indie style.

The R which is the logo for Robin will be on a black background and will look like a light has come through it.

The last pannel will be Robin holding a blue polariod camera in her face which will be on a black background.

Editing Session 5-

Date- 2/12/16

For this editing session we filmed worked on our teacher feedback. One piece of feedback was that the mirror lip syncing shot was too long so to improve on this we decided not to cut down the shot as it was one of our bests we superimposed the male artists look the same direction as Robin to show how they have broken up. Another piece of feedback was to include a shot of the artists eyes moving faster and to the beat of the music. We did this by putting the two shots on top of each other to make sure that they are at the exact same position we then speed up the movement of the eyes so that they moved around the screen.

Filming Session 7-

Filming Session 7
Date-29/11/16
Equipment- Tripod, Fig rig, camera

For this filming session we filmed some filler shots to fill in the small caps between other shots. We filmed the couple holding hands, their feet standing opposite each other and their faces. While filming we came up with some new ideas add in our music video such as, we filmed the couple looking into the camera we then just filmed the female artist as we are going to fade out the male artists to show she is on her own. We also filmed the café scene which is where we see the couple sitting down together which then goes into the artist sitting on her own. Some problems we faced while filming is that there were a lot of people walking past while we tried to film some of the lip syncing shots so we had to refilm those.

Editing Session 3-

Date- 22/11/16

For this editing session we made the flashbacks and the present shots clearer to see so the narrative is noticeable. By doing this we made the present shots black and white, we have chosen to do this because when you think of flashbacks you thing of them as being black and white so we decided to see the colours round and make the present in black and white to show her sadness. We also added in some new footage we had filmed such as some London eye shots which we hadn't used used yet to show the couple having a good time together. This editing footage was to work on some our feedback we had gotten. We worked on making sure the reversing footage of the feet and the couple bowling were in time with the music. We also tried editing off beat with some of our shots but decided that we were going to filming some new footage to fit with editing of the beat.

Filming Session 6-

Music Video Draft

Music Video Draft
Date- 22/11/16

What Went Well:
Editing-
All of the shots are cut to the beat of the music video and all the lip syncing shots are in time with the lyris of the songs.
We have also added in some reverse effects where they are walking togther and also when
 they are bowling.
Camerawork/Shots-
We have come up with some interesting shot types such as when we use the hand held shot of the artists on the swings, shots such as when the couple are in London leaning on the railing the camaera has been postioned in an interesting way instead of just behind them.

Lighting
For the ending shots we used a blue lighting with a wave machine to create the effect of the water. We chose to make one side of the artist face darker then the other with the wave machine.

Even Better If:
Editing-
We could edit some of the shots of beat such as the silhouette ones at the beginning of the music video.
We need to finish a full edit and add in more shots where there are black spaces.
Camerawork/Shots-
Add in more shots of the Robin on her own such as ones of her walking and sitting on her own.
We could add in more close ups of Robin looking sad and lip synicng to make the narrative clearer to our target audience.
Overall-
We need to make it more obvious that the couple are going through a breakup and that she is thinking about their memories. We could do this by adding in more shots of the female artist on her own looking sad.
To make sure we are targeting our specific audience we could change some of the artists clothes to make them more relatable to an Indie pop artistd and their fans. Changing the clothing also means that our artist fits the star persona we are looking for.

Editing session 1-

Editing Session

Date- 15/11/16

For our first editing session we put a rough copy of our music video together. This session helped to decide if we needed to redo some shots or if we needed to add more in. From this we have decided that we need to add in some more lip syncing shots in the middle of our music video and we need more of the male artists. We also decided that some of the shots were needed in the music video and replaced them with other ones such as the one of the couple walking in London we decided to use an interesting shot of the couple looking over the river with a different angle, we also moved the mirror lip syncing shots to the beginning of the music video because it made the narrative clearer to understand. The shots of the couple walking in London we chose to add in some effects such as  slow motion effect where the couple slow down on the beat of the music. As our second filming session in London went wrong we were short of some clips so we couldn't complete a full copy of our music video, instead we wrote down the shots we need to re do and where we were going to do the.

Filming session 5-

Location- Drama Room
Date- 11/11/16
Equipment- Tripod, LED light, camera

For this filming session we filmed in a drama room to create the silhouette shots for the beginning of our music video. For this we moved the LED light around the room to create a good silhouette, we put the light behind the artist so you can see the outline of her body but unable to see her face. We then moved the camera forward so we get a side profile shot of the arts lip syncing but still unable to see all of her face. Some problems with this filming session is it took awhile for us to find the right position for the light so we could create the silhouette.

Filming Session 3/4-

Location- Sutton,London
Date- 28/10/15, 4/11/15
Equipment- Camera, Tripod

For the filming session in Sutton we filmed in a park. We filmed different shots of the swings which consisted of the camera being on the swing, we also filmed the swings on their own for the present day shots. Some problems with this filming session is that the park soon got busy so we had to film some of our shots in a rush so we didn't get any children in them.

We went into London to film some more shots. We filmed some vlog type shots for the flashbacks to make them seem like a happy couple. We also filmed some shots in the arcade also for the flashback shots, we also filmed the bowling shot and used different angles for them. Some problems with this filming session is that the SD card for the camera stopped working which meant some of our shots didn't film, we then had to use a phone camera to shoot the remanding shots in the arcade.

Filming Session 2-

Location- Bath
Date- 18/10/16
Equipment- Camera, Tripod,

For this filming session we filmed some shots in a bath. We decided to film in a bath because it links in with our genre of indie pop because its very typical to it. For these shots we had to use a bath bomb to change the colour of the water, we also had to buy flowers to put them in the bath as well. We used different angles such as high angles to see the artists sliding into the water. This filming session came out well because we filmed everything that we wanted to and it also came out the way we planned. However, we did experience some problems such as because the bathroom was small we had very minimal space to film in.

Filiming Session 1-

Location- London
Date- 14/10/16
Equipment- Camera, Tripod

For our first filming session we filmed different shots in London. The first few shots were on the London eye where we filmed the couple looking out of the glass. After this we filmed on the streets where we filmed the couple walking along the river bank hand in hand. We filmed other shots such as the couple looking over the side at the river and the couple sitting in the park. These shots turned out well because they are interesting as we used new angles and different camera positions. However, some of the shots weren't what we wanted to such as, some of the shots were shaky although we want the music video to look like the artists are vlogging their time together some of the shots are very shakey which makes them our of focus. When filming in London we came across some problems for example when we filmed on the London eye there was a lot of people so some of the shots we will not be able to use as people are in shots. The main purpose of going into London was to film in the Sealife centre but when we got there it has closed for a private event.

Music Video Age Rating

Music Video Age Rating

The age rating of our music video would be given a 12 as some of the lyrics of the song aren't suitable to young viewers, It also wouldn't be given a higher rating as it doesn't contain any drug misuse, bad language or sexual behaviour which is the criteria for a higher age rating.

Talent Release Form

To be able to use different performers in our music video we have to get them to write their permission down on a talent release form.

Location Post

Shooting Scheudle

We had to create a shooting scheudle to write down the days that we will be shooting, we also had to write down the shots we will be filming and where we will be going to shoot them.

Props Post

Song Permission

To be able to use the song Shark in our music videowithout any copyright issues we had to contact Oh Wonder's management where we asked for permission. We found who Oh Wonder's management are and got their email which we then used to email them asking for permission.

Concept Development

After brainstorming the different ideas for our music video we have decided that our artist will be wearing different costumes for the different locations we film in. The costumes will consist of graphic tees, leather jackets, black ripped jeans and checkered shirts. We have also decided to use props fro different locations such as a skate board for when we are filming at the skate park and we will also be using headphones and a phone to show her teenage persona. We have decided to create a narrative of a girl visiting different locations which she went with her boyfriend, some shots will be in colour which represents the flashback and other shots will be in black and white to represent the present. We have decided to use locations such as a skate park, high street and a bowling alley. We have also decided on different editing effects such as spilt screen, superimposition and jump cuts.

Pitch

The Pitch
For music video we had to present our music video idea and talk about what we wanted to include in it. We had to talk about the narrative of our music video and how we are going to show it through our different shot types. We also had to talk about our star persona and how we wanted our artists to come across, we also had to talk about the different cotumes we are going to use and how they changed depending on the location. Lastly we had to present our test shots of the harder shots we are going to use in our music video and talk about where we are using them and how we would improve them.

Audience Feedback
Some of the audience feedback was that we could use a spiltscreen for when the artists are lip syncing to the song. we are going to use this feeback and create a spiltscreen between the two artists who are going to be lipsyncing in two different locations. We will film the artists first in the two different loactions then when it comes to editing edit the two together to create a spiltscreen. Another piece of feedbackwe recvied was to add in some jump cuts between similar shots, for example when the couple are sitting on the swings a jump cut will be used from looking at them to the swings with no one on them back to one of the arists sitting on their own.

Record Label

Recording labels that we cosidered:

Aardvark Records
One of the record labels we considered was Aardvark Records a British independent label. Aardvark Records was founded in 2001 making it a new recording label, its based in England in Cornwall. It has no affilited companies which shows that it is a real independent company. Most of the aritsts signed with this recordig label aren't well known, artists such as Raising Day, Kicklighter and Callel. Something unique about this label is that all the artists signed to it sare from different music genres such as pop, rock, dance and Reggae. We considered this label because all the arists are small and arent very well known which linked in with the star persona of our artist. However, we chose not to have this as our final recording label because it doesnt fit our target audience, we have chosen an indie pop artists and we believe that Aardvark Records doesn't target indie fans.

Glassnote Records
Another label we consisdered was Glassnote Records which was founded in 2007 and based in Lndon making it a English independent record label. However, its distributor is Universal Music Group, this shows that it isnt a completely indie company as it is linked in with abigger company. This is a reason why we consisdered this label because it is a indie company which has conncetions to bigger ones which helpes when an artist wants to go mainstream. Glassnote has some well known artists such as Mumford & Sons, Chvrches and Secondhand Serenade. We chose not to go with this company because a lot of the artists are from the rock genre which would mean that the label wouldnt be targting out specific audience of indie pop fans.

The label We Chose

The record label we have chosen is Caroline Records which was founded in 1973 although it is based in New York it also has a British side which is aimed at the British artists. Although it is classed a an indpenedent company it is affilited with companies such as Vigrin Records which is a big reasob why we chose it because it gives our aritst a chance to go mainstream. The artists associated with this company are well known but are also up coming aritsts such as 50 Cent being a well known artist and Oh Wonder being an upcoming band. We have also chosen this one because the song we have chosen for our music video is an Indie pop song and Caroline Records fan base is heavly made up of indie pop fans. It also helps us with create the star persona we want because it makes our artist confident because they believe they can move to a mainstream label when they get bigger.

Animatic

Animatic

We made the animatic to show what we want our music video to look. We drew all the different shots that we want use in our music video, shots such as the spilt screen of the artists singing and the jump cuts between the different shots. The animatic is also used to give us an idea of how we have to edit our real music video to make it to the beat, the animatic helps us to place shots in correct places so its edited to the beat.
